Description
An infrared-reflective flag (or IR flag) is a type of combat identification. These patches appear extremely luminous when hit with IR light and viewed through NVG’s. They consist of a national flag or other identifying icons with a Velcro backing for application to an operator’s uniform, plate carrier, or helmet.
While night vision technology is incredibly effective at recognizing people and objects, many factors, including environmental conditions, available ambient light, and the confusion of combat work against the individual when trying to identify friend from foe. IR flags are rendered in materials that result in a high contrast ratio in the infrared spectrum. They are designed to show up brightly whilst being observed through night vision equipment. They are designed to protect the operator from friendly fire. Camouflage is not compromised as the materials produce a low contrast ratio in the visible spectrum, and are thus not easily visible to the naked eye.

Recommendation
